Artwork Scanning.

A faithful record of the original.

We scan artwork, artefacts and photographs on a specialist flatbed scanner, one of the largest available and built for high-end digitisation. It exceeds FADGI, Metamorfoze Light and ISO 19264-1, the international imaging standards museums and cultural institutions use to digitise their collections.

It captures at a true 1200ppi optical resolution under diffused LED light that’s even, shadow-free and free of UV and infrared, so your original is cared for as it’s captured. It can also scan with adjustable directional light, which records the surface of the work itself, from paper grain to brushstrokes, so every detail comes through. Film and negatives are scanned separately, on a scanner made for them.

From a simple digital record to a fully colour-matched reproduction master, we scan artwork, photographs and film for whatever comes next.

Three ways to scan

Choose the level of care your file needs. If you think you'll want prints, now or later, Artwork Reproduction covers every base from the outset.

Raw Scan

The straight, unedited capture: high resolution, but not print-ready without further editing on your end. Our express option, usually ready within one business day.

Standard Edit

A clean, high-resolution scan with basic image adjustments, soft proofed for screen. Suited to digital use, competition entries, and commercial print like books and cards, where fine colour matching isn't critical.

Artwork Reproduction

Our most involved process, for perfecting a file from an original to a fine art print. Paintings, negatives, drawings, mixed media: we work from the original itself, capturing it in detail and colour-matching in person to build a print-ready master file with real accuracy to the original. The file is yours to keep, ready whenever you want to print. It’s hands-on work that takes time, and includes an A4 test print to approve the file.

Sizes & pricing

Scans are priced by the size of the artwork (not the paper) and by resolution: 600ppi for up to 4× enlargement, or 1200ppi for up to 8× enlargement.

Our flatbed takes work up to 25 × 18″. Large-format flat work is scanned in passes and composited digitally, something we do regularly.

Framed work can usually be taken out of its frame for a fee, though depending on how it’s been framed, we may refer you to a framer for safe removal. If your piece is rigid or stretched and larger than 80 × 100cm, please contact us with its details first (size, medium and how it’s mounted), as we may need to refer you to another service.

Standard Edits, Artwork Reproductions, and film and negative scans are quoted before you book in. Raw Scans don’t need a quote.
